… Malaysia now publishes laid-open publications

18 months after filing date or priority date? In view of Malaysia’s accession to the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) in August 2006, a number of changes were made to the Malaysian Patents Act and Patents Regulations. One of the most important amendments concerns the public inspection of files relating to patent applications. Malaysia now allows applications to be published 18 months after the filing date (or if a priority is claimed, from the priority date). There are also specific stipulations as to which information can be made public (specifications, drawings and bibliographical details) and which applications will not be open to public inspection. ... SIPO introduced electronic filing of PCTs?

On 1 May 2007, the Chinese Patent Office (SIPO) introduced "PCT-SAFE" (“Secure Applications Filed Electronically”), the software that enables electronic filing of international patent applications under the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT). PCT-SAFE is already in use in other East Asian countries, namely Japan, Malaysia and the Republic of Korea. … the number of patents granted in Malaysia increased

by 170% from 2 508 to 6 749 in 2006? Following a backlog reduction programme, the Malaysian patent office has increased examining capacity and is confident that the backlog in the field of patents will be cleared by the time the first PCT applications enter the national phase in Malaysia (Malaysia joined the PCT on 16 August 2006).
