I'd like to recommend you the English website of Korean Intellectual Property Office. The URL is http://www.kipo.go.kr/kpo2/user.tdf?a=user.english.main.BoardApp&catmenu=ek.

You can find Korean IP laws, anuual reports and other statistics from 'Reference Material" menu and also can get useful information in Q&A and FAQ from 'Public Relation' menu on top of the main page.

You can also post a message in the Q&A section to ask for other information on Korean IP system.

By the way, the Patent Law currently available on the website is the verison of 2005, the latest version of Korean Patent law will be published around this fall.

J-E machine translation

This is Tsuyoshi Kakita from Japan Patent Information Organization.

I would like to introduce my favorite J-E machine translation websites.
Those websites are indicated in Japanese language, so I would like to show you basic usage procedure.

My favorite MT websites are as follows. Each of them has alternatives of Text Translation(TXT) and Webpage translation(WEB).

Text Translation provides English translation of Japanese text. Just paste your Japanese text into the big box on the screen. As for EXCITE and Yahoo Japan, short default sentence is preset in the box and it needs to be overwrited.

Before click on the Submit button(marked as 翻訳), you must choose a translation type from alternatives of J-E(日→英) and E-J(英→日).

As for EXCITE, the Submit button is just above the yellow arrow, and E-J/J-E selection is above the Submit button. Its default is E-J(upper one) so you have to switch to J-E(bottom one).

As for OCN, the Submit button is the upper one just below the dark-red arrow. E-J/J-E selection is just above the text entry box. Its default is E-J (left end) so change it to J-E next to it on the right.

As for Yahoo Japan, the E-J/J-E selection is on the right of the text entry box. Default is E-J(upper one), so switch it to J-E (second one). The Submit button is below the selection menu with the Clear button on its right.

You will obtain the result by clicking on the Submit button.

As for Website Translation, you can entry the URL of Japanese-language webpage for direct translation. The entry box is indicated as "URL" for each of those websites.

You have to choose a translation type just as Text Translation. For each page, default is E-J. As for EXCITE, switch the mode from E-J(left) to J-E(right). As for OCN, E-J(left end) to J-E (second from left end). Note that J-E is the fourth from the left for Yahoo Website translation. Then click on the Submit button to perform automatic translation. The button is just beside or below the URL entry box.
